Charity cycle ride starting at the SMH Group Stadium

A charity cycle ride taking place next month will start at the SMH Group Stadium.

Jamie Barton, chairman of Sheffield City FC, has arranged the 40-mile ride on Saturday, March 16 in memory of youngsters John, Lacey and Connie, who lost their lives in Killamarsh in 2021.

Jason Bennett, the father affected by this tragedy, raises money for the Youth Cancer Trust in memory of his children, so Jamie and his Sheffield City FC colleagues would like to support him in this way.

In an interview with 1866 Sport, Jamie said: “We want to try and raise as much money as we can towards the end of the season.

“Our target is £2,000 at the moment and we’re a quarter of the way there, which isn’t too bad in two weeks.

“We understand that that people are struggling, money-wise, but even a small amount will help us hit our target.”

After starting at the home of the Spireites, the cyclists will go on to Dronfield FC and then take a short ride up the road to Sheffield FC. They will then move on to Bramall Lane, Hallam FC, Hillsborough and Stocksbridge Park Steels before finally arriving at Olympic Legacy Park, ready for kick-off in Sheffield City FC’s final home game of the season.

The participants are Isabelle Hartley (12), Cameron Barton (15), Jamie Barton, James Morts, Matthew Gillway, Mark King and Tom Wickstone.
