Throughout the summer school holiday, the Trust’s Camp Inspire programme is taking place at Staveley Junior School.
Camp Inspire allows children/young people to benefit from structured holiday activities, make new friends and become more active while receiving a free hot school meal each day.
Last week, the mayor and mayoress of Chesterfield visited the school and were truly blown away to see what the programme offers.
Cllr Mick Brady, Mayor of Chesterfield, said: “I’m truly amazed. The provision that they have got here for these children, who are having a wonderful time, and I must admit that I’m having a wonderful time.
“The atmosphere here is truly amazing. These kids are having the time of their lives. Full marks to everybody here.
“The effort that has gone in from the staff is brilliant – they are having fun as well. It is excellent that the football club is helping to provide provision like this away from the actual stadium itself.”
Cllr Suzie Perkins, Mayoress of Chesterfield, added: “It’s joyful to be here. I knew it was going to be good but it is really inspirational.”
The camp has been a big success in the past and has continued that this summer with around 150 places being filled.
Roz Towers, the Trust’s Children and Young People (CYP) Wellbeing Lead, was delighted to hear about the mayor and mayoress’ enjoyment of the programme.
She said: “It’s a great honour to have [the mayor and mayoress] here to come and see the great work that we do from the Trust in terms of the Camp Inspire programme.
“They seemed to have enjoyed a tour around, they’ve met the children, and it’s great to have that level of support and for them to get that message into the wider community as well.
“A tremendous amount of work goes into it. We run three programmes throughout the year: an Easter programme, summer holidays and a week during the Christmas holidays.
“We get lots of staff that come back each time. They get an awful lot out of it as well as the children having an amazing time as well.”
