Statistics show importance of looking after your mental health

This week marks World Mental Health Awareness Week, with the topic of the week being ‘anxiety’.

Following on from our previous piece around the Trust’s initiatives to combat anxiety and improve mental health, we have some statistics that showcase how important looking after your mental health is and show how no-one is alone:

  • One in four people will suffer from some form of mental health problem this year.
  • Anyone can be affected by poor mental health, no matter what your life situation. It’s okay not to be okay.
  • Anxiety is a type of fear usually associated with the thought of a threat or something going wrong in the future, but it can also arise from something happening right now and it is proven that those aged 16 to 29-years-old are most likely to suffer from anxiety.
  • In 2022/23, an average of 37.1% of women and 29.9% of men reported high levels of anxiety.
  • Stress can also affect people in many different ways. According to the Mental Health Foundation, in the past year, 74% of people have felt so stressed they have been overwhelmed or unable to cope.
  • Around 51% of adults who felt stressed reported feeling depressed, and 61% reported feeling anxious.

These stats are proof that anyone can feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed and many more feelings. Here at the Trust, we are doing as much as we can to combat poor mental health and anxiety.

We offer an open-door policy at the Community Trust and offer support and advice through many of our different initiatives and campaigns.

Our community space, the HUB, is also available for anyone to come down and relax if they’re feeling stressed, anxious or just want to get out of the house.
