Today marked the first anniversary of the Spireites in Mind group, which was set up to help former footballers and their families who are affected by dementia.
Monthly meetings are held at the SMH Group Stadium, bringing people together for a social event featuring a special guest, along with a raffle and a game of ‘Play Your Cards Right’.
The latest meeting, which took place on Wednesday, saw former Sheffield United, Aston Villa and Wimbledon star Kevin Gage take part in a Q&A session.
Spireites legend Sean O’Neill organises the meetings with help from Keith Jackson and Nick Johnson.
Former Chesterfield players Colin Prophett, Bill Dearden, Andy Kowalski and Colin Tartt are among those who regularly attend the meetings. Former England international Tony Currie, who hosts similar meetings at Sheffield United, is also a regular attendee.
