Knit & Natter group create Easter chicks for Deer Park Primary School

The Trust’s Knit & Knatter group played its role over the Easter weekend by creating knitted chicks for the Easter Fayre at Deer Park Primary School.

The group produced several chicks and rabbits to help raise funds for the Parent Teacher Association.

Knit & Natter has been running since October 2023 and has proved a great success, providing a free social space for those with the shared interest of knitting and crafts.

Debbie Dance, who leads the group, said: “Deer Park Primary School asked for some knitted chickens for their Easter Fayre so that Easter treats can be put inside to raise funds for the PTA at the school.

“I was approached after a request was seen on our Facebook page, asking if our Knit & Natter group was able to help out and we were happy to.

“We knitted and crocheted the chicks and also made rabbits from flannels.  They were handed over to Natalie, who is chair of the PTA at the school.

“We’ve also been knitting twiddle muffs for people with dementia, so once we’ve got a few of those together, they’ll be taken and donated to a nursing home.”

On the success of the group, Debbie added: “I think the most we’ve had at one session is 32 people. I’ve had people who haven’t knitted for years and young people who couldn’t knit and now they can, so it’s great.

“There are ladies who didn’t know each other before coming, but now go out and meet up at different events, so the community and friendship has built.”

The Knit & Natter sessions take place from 10am on Wednesdays and are free for anyone to attend. For more information, you can ring the Trust on 01246 925115.
