With International Women’s Day approaching us on Friday, March 8, the Trust’s annual ‘Women at the Game’ fixture is Chesterfield’s home game against AFC Fylde next Saturday.
The fixture is an opportunity for women who perhaps wouldn’t normally attend matches to come and meet like-minded people in a safe and friendly environment.
Alyss Jackson, who is the Trust’s women & girls inclusion officer, said: “International Women’s day is for women as a whole to come together, recognise and celebrate their achievements.
“It is important to have this when trying to create continuous positive change towards equality, especially in the sports industry.
“Here at the Trust, we are proud of our 50/50 split of male and female employees, with our chief operating officer being female too!”
Adding further information about the Women at the Game fixture, Alyss said: “We host a meet and greet with inspirational female guests who have been involved in football in a variety of roles.
“We have coffee and cake and other activities to get involved with too. Come along to the HUB and join us!
“We also deliver, in our partner schools, fun and inclusive football games for girls, to enable them to try football in a less competitive environment and to show that it doesn’t have to be rough and muddy.”
On the positive influence that International Women’s Day has had in the past, Alyss commented: “We have seen a real growth in women and girls participation in the various projects we run.
“The increased numbers have led to further provision being required and therefore opportunities developed too.
“Female attendance at Chesterfield matches is higher than it ever has been, showing a shift in football becoming more of a family-orientated sport and not just for the ‘Dads and lads’.”
