Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2023

To mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2023, we are helping to raise awareness of the help available to those who are struggling.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates more than 700,000 people die due to suicide each year and that almost 77% of all global suicides occur in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).

For every suicide there are many more who attempt suicide or have serious suicidal ideation. Suicidal behaviour profoundly impacts families and communities and remains a universal challenge with millions impacted.

The reduction of suicide mortality is of global importance and a vital public health consideration.

At half-time in Saturday’s fixture, messages of support from Chesterfield first-team players will be displayed on the big screen.

The Community Trust and the club are proud to continue to support World Suicide Prevention Day, as well as seeing the difference that sessions offered by the Trust are making to people’s lives.

Ahead of yesterday’s fixture at the SMH Group Stadium, the Trust, in conjunction with Derbyshire County Council Mental Health & Suicide Prevention team, spoke to a collection of attendees of Trust sessions/programmes to find out about the positive effect on their mental health.
