World Cancer Day

Today is World Cancer Day – the global uniting initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

Created in 2000, World Cancer Day has grown into a positive movement for everyone, everywhere to unite under one voice to face one of our greatest challenges in history.

This year’s World Cancer Day’s theme, “Close the Care Gap”, is all about celebrating progress in its many forms that enable more people to seek and receive the care they need and deserve. It is about providing the momentum to fuel our fight for fairness. We will build build stronger alliances and innovative new collaborations; we will mobilise friends, family, coworkers and communities because we know that united, we are stronger.

Much work is done by the Community Trust to help support those affected by cancer. The Affected by Cancer Support Group has now been running for over a year, with monthly meetings held at the Technique Stadium.

Organised by former Chesterfield player Tony Lormor and Dawn Warrington from Macmillan, the next meeting is in the Brampton Brewery 1866 Lounge on Friday, from 10am to 12noon.

It is free to attend and open to everyone. Unlimited tea & coffee is available, together with sticky buns.
