Inspire the planet

The Trust’s InSpire the Planet project look at ways young people can help their Schools and Chesterfield FC reduce their carbon footprint – whilst also playing with Lego!

Trust Coach Shanaya Choudry, has visited a number of Spireites Partner Schools to talk about the impact that individuals can have by making small changes, as well as the bigger causes of global warming and how recycling, reducing plastic waste, using public transport and walking or cycling can all make a big difference. Youngsters then make their own InSpire the Planet Pledge, committing to making changes of their own to reduce their carbon footprint. Shanaya said, “its been fantastic to see the creativity and the conscientiousness of children. They are coming up with fantastic ideas and ways to help, a lot of them we are taking back to the Trust to implement. We’ve seen the removal of plastic straws in the café along with the Trust planting trees when people come and visit Chester’s Den, both of which came from children in Schools”.

Nicola Fretwell, Headteacher from Hodthorpe Primary School, who have had two sessions with the Trust so far said, “The Inspire Planet Assembly was an interactive assembly about the environment. Children learnt about plastic pollution and about protecting our oceans. Following this, we had a Protect our Planet Day where the children made engaging posters”.

The project runs in partnership with the National League Trust, who support Club Community Organisations in making a difference to the lives of local residents. Keith Jackson, the Community Trust’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer said, “The National League Trust have consistently encouraged our projects and given us the support we need to make a difference”.
