Academy Africa’s Race to Uganda Challenge

Academy manager Neil Cluxton and a number of academy players are currently taking part in a Academy Africa fundraising challenge.

The target is to take part in a cycling challenge, covering the number of miles from here to Uganda to raise money to pay for football kit and equipment for junior teams over there.

Neil explained: “We’ve got four teams racing each other and we’re trying to achieve the mileage, which is just over 4,000 miles.

“We’ve had great participation from a number of people in the community, whether they’re out on their bike or on a spinning bike.

“We’re trying to raise a couple of thousand pounds to send as much equipment out to Uganda as we can and maybe in the future get some of the young lads out there, coaching.”

Neil thanked Chesterfield Borough Council for providing the use of the Healthy Living Centre in Staveley. He said: “The council have been brilliant, letting us use the fantastic facility. The manager, Darren, has always helped us out and it’s good to see the facility open again.”

Academy Africa, which was set up a number of years ago, is also supported by a number of former academy players and staff.
