Brave the Shave to help Macmillan Cancer Support

A Trust placement student, Sophie Coates who is currently working in our Alternative Provision team, is braving the shave to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sophie’s mum, Maria, has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and Sophie wants to help raise awareness and sponsorship to help Macmillan continue to do the great work that they do. Along with her friend Emma Ashmore (both pictured), Sophie will be shaving her head next Friday, before hosting a Coffee Morning in April.

Sophie said: “I did this to stand in solidarity with my mum, as hair loss is a big thing for females, and I didn’t want her to think she was going through this alone. It’s also a great cause to thank Macmillan for the support they have shown us so far.

“My mum is doing really well at the moment and staying positive and that’s getting us all through it at the minute. I hope that through doing this, we can help to get vital funds that Macmillan need. Until we found ourselves in this situation, we didn’t realise just how much support they provide for families.”.

Tony Lormor, who runs the Trust’s Affected By Cancer project, added: “What Sophie and Emma are taking on is an amazing thing and they should be wholeheartedly supported.

“Losing my hair while going through chemo was incredibly tough for me, and speaking to the members of the support group, even tougher for a lady. I hope that Sophie’s mum, Maria, makes a full recovery and her treatment is going well.”
