Camp Inspire summer review

The Trust’s popular Camp Inspire programme has just finished for the summer.

Camp Inspire is a health & well-being holiday camp for children/young people aged 4 to 16 years old, focused on enhancing well-being and the development of soft skills through structured, fun activities.

Craig Dawson, who is involved in running the camp, said: “It’s a HAF (Holiday Activity Fund) camp where we provide free school meals to SEND children predominantly. We put on two physical sessions a day for them as well as a nutritional session and an enrichment session, also giving them a free hot school meal.

“The camp runs from 10am to 2pm for four weeks during the summer. We also do it in Easter for two weeks and then winter for one week as well.

“They learn life skills and improve their social skills by interacting with the other children. We have an array of great staff members delivering the sessions and looking after the children.

On the positive feedback the camp has received, Craig added: “The children love it and we’ve had lots of good feedback from the parents to say that they really want to come back in winter. They hope that it’s going to carry on going for future camps.”

Camp Inspire relies on funding to operate and Craig reiterated the importance of ensuring the camp continues to run: “We’ve definitely got funding for the winter camp, but as of yet I believe that we will have to apply for funding for future camps at Easter, summer and winter again.

“I hope we get it because it’ll be really beneficial in the community for all the children that come because they do love it.

“The more children we get attending the camp, the more likely we are to get that funding again.”
