Simon, Tyler, Carl and the two Charlies made a pit-stop at the SMH Group Stadium early on Friday morning, as they made their way towards the end destination of Belper Town.
The group set off from Newcastle United one week ago, calling at several football clubs on their way and raising money for Prostate Cancer UK and Mind mental health charity.
Simon, who has completed several similar challenges in the past, said: “Since last Friday, myself, my two sons Tyler and Charlie, my best friend Carl and his son Charlie, we’ve walked just under 200 miles for Mind and Prostate Cancer UK.
“We started up at Newcastle United Football Club, we’ve walked to Sunderland Football Club, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Harrogate, Leeds, Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and we’re currently stood at the fantastic Chesterfield and we’re on our way to Belper United to finish off the day today.
“By the time we’ve done today, we’ll have hit the 200-mile mark and we’re trying to raise money for two fantastic charities.
“We’re just under the £2,000-mark and we’re hoping to get over £2,000 by the end of today.”
On the inspiration for the challenge, Simon added: “So myself and my sons have actually done these a few times now. It originated with the passing of their nana.
“My eldest was 10 years old and decided he wanted to do sponsored walks. I said, ‘Yeah, let’s do a sponsored walk – what do you want to do?’ He wanted to walk to Skegness from Belper!
“The football clubs are brilliant. They’re like yourselves – always willing to help out, do what they can do to support us.
“It’s fantastic that we can come out by the side of beautiful pitches, get some photographs, and then we head off into the sun.”
Looking forward to celebrating the completion of the walk, Simon said: “We’ve got about 40 people meeting us tonight down at Belper Town and we’re going to wander over to the local pub and hopefully have a beer in the beer garden.”
