The Trust’s Saturday Morning Club recently took place at the SMH Group Stadium, giving kids the chance to play on the same surface as the Chesterfield FC first team.
Lewis Sutcliffe, who leads the Saturday Morning Club, spoke about the experience of having the session on the pitch.
He said: “It was a really good opportunity where we managed to get upwards of 80 children on Chesterfield’s home ground.
“They were training and playing on the pitch and got to really soak in the atmosphere of what it would be like to be involved in football full-time.
“They got to take photos with the trophy, they got to train with their friends and have a laugh. Most importantly, the parents got to come and watch their kids do what they love
“We had the academy approach and ask about setting up events so we can try and get more children into academies, into grassroots and into football in general.
The Saturday Morning Club is for ages 3-13 and focuses on improving several skills.
Lewis added: “We try to build and develop people’s football skills and get them into teams for the future.
“The kids benefit from multiple skills. They learn social skills, make friends, improve their football ability and learn lots of technical skills which can be used throughout sport as they get older.
“Seeing a child at the club, watching them develop to a really good standard of football and finding a team; seeing their success story really makes it what it is.”
