As we head into the Christmas period, the Trust has been preparing food hampers through HAF (holiday, activity and food) funding for the third year running.
Despite funding cuts, 400 hampers are being made which will be distributed to families with children who receive free school meals in the local area.
Rebecca White, who has been working on the project for the last three years, said: “With the cost of living crisis, people are really struggling, so this is something that will really help people through Christmas.
“I’ve really enjoyed it (the last three years). It’s a really heartfelt project. I don’t think you realise what you’re going into until the families come and pick up the hampers; that can be quite emotional.
“To make this possible there’s been a lot of preparation, you’ve got to be super organised. There’s a lot of contacting people and it’s a full team project.
“When it comes to hamper building, there are a lot of volunteers. A lot of staff that are already here working jump in and out where they can.”
On the importance of companies helping with the project, Rebecca added: “It’s really important. Our main stock has come from Aldi. We’ve done some Tesco shopping this morning which has come from donations from other companies.
“Courage Sportswear are donating some money which will provide a selection box, and Leverton UK Ltd are providing us with a donation that will provide a tub of chocolates.
“Because of the funding slashes this year, it meant that we can still put that luxury item in.
“Supermarkets at this time of year are pulled out as it is. They’ve got all their Christmas orders coming in, they’ve got stock coming in and out. For them to order in bulk stock for us is amazing.
On the importance of proving the hampers at Christmas time, Rebecca said: “There’s a lot of pressure at Christmas. There’s so much pressure on parents and if you’re in a tough financial situation, it’s just overwhelming.
“Christmas is about giving, and that’s what we’re doing.”
Urging people to help at Christmas time in one way or another, Rebecca added: “It’s humbling. There will always be somebody in need.
“Just because somebody’s smiling or well-dressed and they look alright, doesn’t mean they are. Check in.”
