The Senior Spireites Exercise Group has been operating successfully for many years.
The group aims to provide fun, social and fitness-based activities for anyone over the age of 55.
Recently, due to high demand and the success of the current sessions, a decision has been made to extend the group and add additional sessions.
Andrea Parkinson, who works with the group, spoke about the success of the initiative and her delight that additional sessions have been added.
She said: “The group is a really successful part of the Community Trust that we’re all so proud of.
“They simply turn up and play bingo, chat and then do some chair-based exercise which they all absolutely love and it keeps them fit. There’s no doubt about it, they love it and keep coming back.
“It’s been so successful and we’re delighted that demand now means that we have added an additional session.
“We’ve added a session on a Friday afternoon, which launched on February 10. It’s already got lots of people signed up to it which is great.”
Andrea explained what the sessions are actually for. “The sessions really are for anyone over the age of 55 that wants to come down and be social and get out of the house,” she said.
“You don’t have to be a Chesterfield fan to attend the groups. You don’t have to like football either, it is literally a social group that provides you with some fun exercise and social activities.
“Both men and women attend and there’s plenty of people who aren’t interested in football.
“Some of them end up socialising outside of the group too, which is great. That’s exactly what we want the sessions to provide.
“We urge anyone to come along that’s maybe feeling a little lonely or just simply wanting to get out of the house.”
Andrea urged people to come along and give the sessions a go. She said: “The first week is free, so you can come and try it without losing anything.
“The reality is that we get very few people who come the first time and then don’t come back, we have a highly successful return rate.
“It just shows that people are enjoying it. You don’t have to book or let us know you’re coming – just turn up.”
The new session takes place on Fridays in the HUB, from 3:30pm to 5pm.
