Lewis Sutcliffe, who volunteers for the Community Trust, recently won an award in recognition of all his hard work.
Lewis was named the regional winner in the Midlands for Holiday Activities Volunteer of the Year.
When asked why he had won the award, he said: “I’ve been helping out with the Community Trust, going to all the holiday events like the Soccer Schools.
“I’ve been putting in as much as I can, and I’ve won the award for sticking around and helping out as much as I can with the club.
“It feels lovely. The recognition I’ve gained from it is phenomenal. I never thought I’d get this far.
“I feel like this experience with the club has been beautiful. Every time I’ve had a barrier, it’s been overcome slowly and carefully. I’ve loved every second of it.”
Lewis has gone in with gusto whenever he has helped out with the Trust. He spoke about why he loves what he does and also gave some advice for anyone that wants to help out with the Trust, saying: “Every single opportunity I’ve had, I’ve loved every second of it and always want to come back for more.
“Jump in there feet first. You’ll be welcomed by the staff and it’s a lovely experience.”
Lewis explained what he wants to do going forward. “Hopefully, I’m going to get an apprenticeship and move forward with the Trust. Hopefully, it will be sports coaching or helping with engagement in the community.
“Ever since I was a kid, I realised how it affects other people’s lives and being able to put a smile on someone else’s face. To realise how it affects them in a positive way is motivation for me.”
