Know the Score campaign – a decade of success

As it is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, it is an appropriate time to celebrate the success of the Know the Score campaign over the past decade.

The Community Trust has been proud to lend its support to the campaign over the years and that has been acknowledged by the PFA.

An email from the PFA Community Team read: “Your support has been hugely appreciated, not only by us but more importantly by former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Nicky Johns, his wife Alison and the family.

“The campaign has made an outstanding contribution into raising awareness of Bowel Cancer symptoms after the sad passing of their son Stephen at the young age of 26. It has been a brilliant collective approach by the whole football family.”

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor added: “‘Know the Score’ is one of our most successful campaigns which illustrates the concept perfectly with players, managers, Bowel Cancer charities, football clubs,
Trusts and Foundations all coming together to show strength in unity and achieve widespread publicity for a problem that affects people of all ages and a problem that can be eased by awareness, checking and early treatment.

“I would like to thank all parties involved in the various Know the Score campaigns over the years with our deepest appreciation for everyone willing to take part and helping to make a difference for good in our modern world.”
