Million steps challenge for ‘Steptember’

A local martial arts instructor, who works with Chesterfield FC Academy, is on course to complete a staggering ‘Steptember’ charity challenge of one million steps this month. This is around ten times the steps taken by the average person in the UK!

Dave Cartawick, who owns Unit1 Fitness & Martial Arts in Chesterfield, set himself the daunting target in order to raise money for Ashgate Hospicecare.

Dave and his team at Unit1 have taken on various fundraising challenges over the years. He explained: “We usually do something for Ashgate every year and we were able to raise money by putting on classes via Zoom during lockdown.

“I also wanted to take on a physical challenge so I thought it would be good to set myself a target of a million steps this month.

“I have gone on regular long walks from my home in Darley Dale to boost the figure so I’m over halfway towards my target.”

Academy manager Neil Cluxton has wished Dave well with his efforts, adding: “I’ve known Dave for years and I’ve got no doubt he’ll achieve his target.

“He’s done some great work with our players over the last year or so and his contribution is greatly appreciated. I’d urge anyone to help him raise money for Ashgate Hospicecare.”
