Donation to help new initiative for veterans

Money raised by a Spireite and donated to the Community Trust will be used to help a new initiative aimed at bringing veterans together.

Starting in August, Buddy Buddy will feature veterans attending a social gathering in the HUB on a monthly basis. There will be a guest speaker, together with a buffet and tea/coffee.

In 2018, Mark Jones held a reunion with former colleagues from a unit he served in. They hadn’t been together in 30 years. It was so successful that he was asked to organise another one in 2022 at the Technique Stadium, which took place in May.

Taking up the story, Mark explained: “As part of the night, I held a raffle which raised about £160. Last time the money was donated to the British Legion, but this time I wanted it to go to a local charity. If it involved ex-military, that would be excellent.

“I immediately thought of the Trust and when announced at the event it was welcomed with open arms. It’s not a massive amount but it’s given by a group of people who care and it’s the thought that counts.”

We thank Mark and everyone who contributed to the amount raised.

Further information about Buddy Buddy will be announced soon.
