Women’s walking football sessions set to be launched

Women’s walking football sessions are set to be launched by the Community Trust.

After several successful taster sessions in recent weeks, it has now been announced that there will be a weekly walking football session for the women of Chesterfield and the surrounding areas, run by the Trust.

The sessions are for any females aged 40+, with all abilities welcome to attend; it’s a great place to meet new and friendly people while trying out a different sport.

The sessions are great for both your physical and mental wellbeing and sessions cost just £4 to attend!

Women and girls’ inclusion officer at the Community Trust, Alyss Jackson, who is part of the team that have set the sessions up, said: “We’ve done a few taster sessions now and they’ve been really successful.

“We’re happy with the number of new faces that we’ve seen coming down so far – it’s been great to see.

“The regular sessions are now up and running and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to get this going. It’s going to be great for the women of Chesterfield. It provides a fun and social opportunity for so many women that they otherwise wouldn’t have.”

Alyss also touched on the benefits that walking football can have, saying: “I think it’s massively important for anyone’s mental and physical health.

“Coming down and meeting new people, socialising whilst also taking part in some physical activity.

“It keeps you active and allows you to socialise at the same time. It’s great fun, too!”

She also encouraged people to come down and give it a go. She said: “I don’t think you can knock anything until you’ve tried it and that applies here.

“There’s no such thing as ‘I can’t do’ in these sessions. It’s for everyone.

“Come down, give it a try and have some fun. You might just find it’s something you really do love.

“Anyone who is interested in coming down, please bring appropriate footwear for indoor and outdoor use, while also wearing clothing that you feel comfortable in. I look forward to seeing you all there!”

The women’s walking football sessions will be based at Outwood Academy, beginning on Thursday, July 28 and running from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

The sessions will run every Thursday from then on and will cost just £4 to attend (must be paid in cash).

Why not get up, get out, and give something new a try?
