Senior Spireites walking football team feature on BBC Breakfast

The Senior Spireites walking football team featured on BBC Breakfast on Saturday morning.

Presenter Mike Bushell (pictured below) came up to Chesterfield to watch the players in action at Queen’s Park.

He interviewed some of the players and Community Trust CEO John Croot, who is credited with inventing walking football.

John came up with the idea of playing a slowed down version of the beautiful game as part of a project delivered by the Community Trust, aimed at keeping elderly people fit and helping them to form friendship groups.

Walking football has since become one of the fastest-growing sports in the world with international tournaments taking place.

If you are able to watch Saturday’s BBC Breakfast, please note that it was shown at 9.40am – three hours, 40 minutes into the programme.
