Pride Month 2021

June is Pride Month 2021, with people joining together to celebrate and honour the LGBTQ+ communities around the world.

On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club in Greenwich Village, New York. The raid led to rioting over the next six days and Pride Month is celebrated every year as a tribute to those who were involved in the Stonewall Riots.

Protestors demanded the establishment of places where LGBTQ+ people could go and be open about their sexual orientation without fear of arrest.Pride Month is about teaching tolerance, education in pride history and continuing to move forward for equality, reminding people how damaging homophobia was and still can be.

The Community Trust does much work in the community to promote inclusion and equality, including the delivery of workshops in schools.

The Rainbow Laces movement has also been supported by the club and Community Trust for a number of years, with players wearing the distinctive laces in a fixture dedicated to raising awareness of the initiative.

A range of Spireites-branded button badges, featuring the rainbow colours associated with Pride, have been produced to mark Pride Month 2021. A limited number of badges are now on sale in the Club Superstore at the Technique Stadium, subject to availability.
