Importance of grassroots clubs outlined

Academy manager Neil Cluxton has outlined the important of grassroots clubs to the Spireites.

Speaking at an event put on at Hasland Community Football Club, which saw academy teams from Under-9s to Under-16s take on their Hasland counterparts, Cluxton said: “The grassroots clubs around this area are essential to Chesterfield Football Club and we want to support grassroots football as much as we can.

“It’s good for the clubs to link up and share coaching ideas and we want as many of the kids as possible to come down and get involved with our club.

“It’s great to get them all together because we need the town to pull together more than ever and we want everyone to get behind the club.”

Highlighting the opportunities open to grassroots clubs at the Technique Stadium, Cluxton added: “There are numerous things that the clubs can get involved in such as flag bearing at the stadium on matchdays.

“We can organise and host fundraising dinners and events at the stadium for the clubs and put on kids’ birthday parties. We can also get coaches out to the clubs as well.”
