Our next Traineeship course for 15-18 year olds not in education, employment or training starts next Monday, 22nd January. So far, we have a 100% success rate for positive outcomes – all our trainees have ended up in either paid or voluntary work or back in education. The course transforms these young people’s attitude, aspirations, confidence and self-belief. It also improves their communication, creative, employability, numeracy and literacy skills.

Kian and Kane are just two of our success stories. Both were involved in setting up our Vintage Programme Shop business – Kian as overall project manager and Kane as Media and Marketing Manager.

Kian was keen to develop his leadership skills and led a team of seven trainees, allocating tasks and responsibilities and steering the team to an outstanding business launch.

Kian said, “The Traineeship course was brilliant for me. Scott and Darren have a wealth of knowledge and experience that they passed on to us. They are so encouraging and helpful when we had difficulties and questions. Their attitude and energy is super and it’s really infectious. They’ve helped me rewrite my CV and taught me how to sell myself when applying for jobs. I’m really proud of what I achieved on the course. My only complaint is I’d like to have stayed longer than 12 weeks!”

Since completing the course, Kian has secured employment at a construction company to gain valuable work experience while he works towards his ultimate goal of becoming a commercial airline pilot.

Kian added, “I’ve already got my private pilot’s licence and this course has reignited my passion and given me the confidence to pursue my dream career.”

Kane was responsible for all marketing communications including writing press releases and promoting the new business through social media. During his time on the course, he had a work experience placement with the club’s Media and Communications department, where he had the priceless opportunity to be mentored by the club’s Head of Media and Communications and experienced Sky Sports reporter, Nick Johnson.

Kane told us, “The Traineeship at Chesterfield FC Community Trust was a fantastic course. On my work experience placement, I wrote articles that were published in the club programme and operated the big screen on match days. Being involved in setting up the Vintage Programme Shop was brilliant as well, it felt great to be involved in setting up a real business and the guidance we got from our tutors, Daz and Scott was amazing.”

Kane is now pursuing a career in Marketing and both Kian and Kane are still involved in running the Vintage Programme Shop as volunteers.

We offer a fantastic opportunity for 16-18’s unsure of their future prospects and career direction and want to get the message out to as many people as possible. By helping us spread the word, you are helping us transform the live of local young people.
